Making Gospel Connections

And as Jesus reclined at table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and were reclining with Jesus and his disciples.  Matthew 9:10

Jesus connected with so many different people in meaningful ways.  As we read the Gospel accounts of Jesus’ life and ministry, we quickly realize that Jesus loved people of many backgrounds and circumstances.  In His love Jesus served others helping them with their circumstances but offering forgiveness and restoration.  Many came to believe in Jesus as Lord and Savior through the way He connected meaningfully in their lives.

As the body of Christ, Church, we are to make connections with others no matter their background or circumstances.  The world needs the church to live as Jesus lived, and love as Jesus loved.  Here are 7 ways you can connect with others like Jesus did, and make opportunities to have gospel conversations.

  1. Share a meal together. Invite a neighbor or coworker to have dinner with you.  You might meet at a restaurant or welcome them into your home.  Much can be shared over a meal together.

  2. Have coffee together. If you’re strapped for time in a busy schedule, skip the meal, and offer a cup of coffee.  You might meet at the coffee shop, or simply give a cup away.

  3. Send a letter. Not many receive handwritten letters from neighbors or friends.  You might consider writing a note of encouragement to a neighbor, coworker, or family member.

  4. Offer some help. Yeah, I know, we live in a “I can handle it myself” culture.  I admit, I don’t really like to ask others for help around my house, but if someone offered, I’d accept.  Be aware of needs around you and offer to help someone.

  5. Invite them to your Bible study group. Sometimes we treat church activities as if they are for church members only.  When is the last time you invited your next-door neighbor to join you in your next Bible study meeting?

  6. Give a gif Do you know your neighbor’s birthday or anniversary?  You might consider giving a gift for no occasion but to say you care.

  7. Stop by and have a conversation. When is the last time you simply stopped and asked a neighbor or coworker, “How are you doing?”  Did you get the pat answer, “I’m fine,” and move on?  Or did you really take time to listen and have a conversation.  Sometimes others just need us to stop and care.

Each of these ways can help us to connect with others in a meaningful way.  They may afford us opportunities to share the Gospel or give encouragement.

Will you share in the comments another way to connect with others?
